Welcome Parents and Families!
Pfeiffer University understands the important role parents and families play in the college experience. While our primary relationship and communication will always be with your student, we want you to feel part of our community as well. We encourage parents and families to be active in their student's college experience and at the same time allow them to grow and develop into self-advocates. It is our hope that the information on this page will help you manage this time of change and challenge, and also help you support your student here at Pfeiffer.
While we understand that many parents and families will want to know details concerning their student’s academic and social progress, as a University we cannot readily share that information. It is vital that parents and families understand The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA prohibits University employees, including Advisors, Professors, Deans or other staff members, from providing information from the student’s record (academic or otherwise) to anyone other than the student without the student’s written consent. For more details on FERPA please see the handout on this page.
Welcome to the Office of Orientation!
We encourage all parents and families to participate in their student's orientation experience. We offer orientation for parents and families simultaneously with the student orientation. This gives us an opportunity to welcome you and share information about academics, campus life and how to best support your student. Our goal is to answer all of your questions and give you the resources you need to help make your student’s transition as smooth as possible.
The Office of Orientation provides three orientation opportunities throughout the year for students on the Misenheimer campus.
1. SOAR (Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration)
SOAR is mandatory for every new student entering in the Fall semester. This includes first-time freshmen, transfers and commuters. SOAR is a two-day, overnight experience that occurs several times throughout the summer. Parents are encouraged to attend SOAR with their student. Parents and families should arrange for overnight accommodations at a local hotel. Please see the Local Accommodations handout on this page for special rates.
Students must register for a SOAR session via their EMP site that is given to them via Admissions. Registration will close one week prior to each session or when the maximum number of attendees has been reached.
2. Fall Orientation
Fall Orientation occurs during the three days prior to classes beginning. Fall Orientation is mandatory for new students entering in the fall semester. This includes first-time freshmen, transfers and commuters.
3. Spring Orientation
Spring Orientation occurs during the two days prior to classes beginning. Spring Orientation is mandatory for new students entering in the spring semester. This includes first-time freshmen, transfers and commuters.
Every new student will be charged an orientation fee regardless of participation. The fee is non-negotiable.
Students who are being re-admitted to the university after a time away need not attend orientation.

Welcome to Residence Life at Pfeiffer!
As a parent or family member, no doubt you are curious about the type of environment in which your student will be/is living. It is natural to have questions and concerns as you and your student move through this college adventure and we are here to assist. Residence Life strives to enhance the student's total experience by fostering learning both inside and outside the classroom and by providing support services. We help build a greater sense of community, one that is inclusive, cohesive and caring. Working with the students in the residence halls, the Residence Life staff prepares students to be effective, ethical leaders and active citizens who can make a positive difference in their communities. We encourage you to check out the many handouts on this page pertaining to Residence Life in hopes that they will answer any questions you may have.
